If anyone knows off a Powerbook or a Laptop of fairly decent spec, for less than £400 please could you let me know the details

How about this G3 iBook . . . ? It's not quite a PowerBook, but it's not a bad spec . . .
Great condition Blueberry Apple Macintosh iBook PowerPC G3 Very neat
and well looked after piece of kit, good performer. This groovy looking
laptop has 1 firewire, 1 usb port, ethernet port and data port.
Comes with Airport card installed. Install software OS9 but currently
running OSX. Includes power pack and system install and restore
disks. Selling as it is surplus to requirements.

If you can Martin, try and find an early model PowerBook G4 around the same price... the G3 is a proven performer but incredibly slow. It won't do any modern graphics/3D/video apps any justice. Plus, it can't take advantage of any of the newer Mac OS X technologies like Quartz Extreme.
However, if you plan on using it to only check e-mail or surf the web, a G3 should be adequate.

It dosn't come with a battery, but you can pick one up for around £20 - and it hasn't got an OS, but I'm sure you have one lying around somewhere
