In case you were wondering, it's not changed in 10 years. It's a very depressing shop.scottishtv wrote:I'm sure I read in the business pages one day that it's pretty much the high-price rail station/airport/service station small convenience stores that are keeping the company doing well - places where basically you have little to no choice of using them. Presumably the Post Office deal was to try and keep footfall up in the other main stores.woah wrote:I wonder why anyone does bother really - there are better places to go for almost everything they do, but they do seem to do decent business.
I know there are normal WHS stores in Edinburgh at Cameron Toll and the Gyle, but it'll be at least 10 years since I've been in either.
An interesting article (and video) featuring the remnants of Edinburgh's BHS store from BBC News: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-37177993
Sad set of circumstances but great opportunity to flatten another awful 60s-design building in Edinburgh city centre.

Regarding WHSmith, it seems to me another phase of transferring Post Offices into the stores is currently ongoing with numerous near me having just opened or planned to do so soon.
The main issue to me is that there doesn't seem to be any rule on how big the WHSmith store chosen is in the first place. Some stores are vast so can accommodate a Post Office with ease, but I've seen some small stores accommodate a Post Office meaning the part of the store still available ends up with a very limited range resulting in no more mags/books/stationery than a supermarket and therefore no point in going in at all.
