They've given one of the ASDA Supermarkets (ex-Netto) local to me a bit of a spruce up, which I imagine they plan to roll out across all of them.

The "ASDA Supermarket" logo has been replaced with the updated ASDA logo, with no Supermarket tagline. Inside, the walls have been painted cream with wood panelling above some the counters/fridges etc where the dark red used to be - it certainly feels a lot brighter.

They've put in a pizza counter and coffee machine, and unless I'm imaging things I think they've narrowed some of the aisles and fitted an extra aisle in, so now the fridge aisle is far too narrow with no-one able to get by each other if someone is stood looking at something. They seem to have a bigger range of homeware stuff now (about three quarters of one side of an aisle) which seems pointless to me, I'd much rather they hadn't narrowed everything.

The Manor Top store has always had narrow aisles like that. I think the store is just a tiny bit wider than the one on Queens Road at the foot of the hill, so they've squeezed in an extra aisle. It seems to go through stages of having George selections.

It does look a lot smarter in its new guise.

The Asda Supermarket brand never made sense anyway - the normal stores are supermarkets. Good riddance.

Perhaps it's intended more for use in the café. Either that, or they're expecting shoppers to come in with shopping lists on Google Docs, the Nectar app loaded, and music streaming to make up for the lack of store music.

Sorry for dragging up this old post, but I was browsing through this thread and came across something I don't think I got around to talking about at the time.

Last Christmas, Tesco played in-store music. This is unusual because I don't think they had done it before, and they don't do it the rest of the year. It's something I hadn't noticed before and I found it really annoying when they actually did play music, and couldn't wait for them to stop (or at least find a CD that didn't keep skipping on every song). Am I in the minority in this regard? I much prefer my supermarket experiences to be music-free, it seems.

I dont mind either way unless the shop is empty. The droning noise of fridges, freezers, and air con is almost disorientating at my local Tesco on a quiet evening out of season.

That was exactly the point - that it was a full supermarket in terms of range.
