I really don't see what the problem is with the new look. Channel 4's always been different in terms of presentation, and this new look is no exception. Some of the reactions on TV Forum have baffled me...

I like that Stuart has basically posted the same thing he said in 2004 that the idents wont last because they don't have the logo in.

A bit disappointed that so many people seem down on it. It's not perfect but it's got us talking. (And I really really like it personally).

Don't be downhearted. I think a lot of it has to do with how good the previous idents were (and they were extremely good, if a little worn by the end). The new proposition is (deliberately) a confusing prospect, and that causes reactions both positive and negative. Give it time for that reaction to fade off and see where we're left.

What I dislike particularly is the suggestion that they have to have the logo on screen during the idents or somehow the brand will disappear from peoples minds. It's as if they believe somebody decided last Tuesday that the logo should be removed and they just did it, not that the whole thing has been developed and thought about very carefully over many months/years. This isn't BBC Two for fucks sake.

In the case of Eric Pollard, yeah it is. He's a bitter and twisted spiteful old man, who nearly 20 years ago had a mail-order FIllipino Bride leave him. Some people within the Emmerdale universe still believe he finished his wife off and the plane crash conviniently covered it up. And Eric is even more worn down by that whether he did or didn't do it. I'd totally expect Eric to come out with something like that if I saw him in the Woolpack.

I can't stand distortion of the truth of fictional characters (or those who really existed and are being played by actors) for the sake of political correctness. It's acting. If it's not true for the cast and crew, what fucking chance do we have?

At least the majority of the discussion has been constructive. Not a fan personally, but it does meet the remit they were looking for.

The problem was that the original post read like you were saying "Eric Pollard, the old card, saying something racist again", as opposed to saying something racist is one of the aspects of his character.

King of Wishful Thinking I think is JordyD on DS. Both have the same prediction and posting style that Tom Bradby will tank on News at Ten.

Loving Mouseboy's "whatever" reaction to any criticism he gets e.g. not crediting sources. It's highly professional.
