My Tesco has WiFi, presumably for the café.

My Tesco has wifi with no cafe/restaurant facilities. However it does have an home electronics section.

Indeed, HMV also has wifi, where I can compare the prices of CD's and DVD's with Amazon.

It could be argued that if a store has wifi, you're more likely to spend longer in-store.

The Tesco at Copdock has WIFI in the store which is pretty cr@p! It's super slow; you lose it around the freezer section of the store, so that's 1/3rd of the store you can't use it, it's more like dial up!

BT provides Tesco's wifi. Westminster Libraries used to have BT which was poor with one router in each library which barely provided coverage in half the building.

Is this what the world's coming to? Can you not do a weekly shop without being detached from your phone for five minutes?

My phone's an integral part of my weekly shop - I use the Shopitize and CheckoutSmart apps for cashback and freebies, and the MySupermarket app for instant price comparisons. Those 3 apps have saved me a ruddy fortune over the last 12 months.

I understand that as Mrs Alexia has that too, but she does all her price-comparisoning and deal hunting before she leaves the house.

I just feel that WIFI is becoming one of those things that people think they're "entitled" to, and that by not having it, that automatically equates the establishment in question to something akin to a leper colony. Besides, I get massively more consistent and responsive signal from my over-the-air 3/4G connection that I pay £20 a month for than I do through any on-train WIFI, and sometimes even pub or restaurant WIFI. Plus it doesn't drain the battery as quick. There are some places that I see "WIFI AVAILABLE HERE" stickers and I think "Why fi?"

I know, I'm turning into Nick Harvey quicker than even I thought I would....

WiFi is supposed to be lighter on your battery than 3G/4G, isn't it?

I've streamed media on a Motorola Moto E and a Sony Xperia E1 and found the 3G consumed more of the battery than wifi.

In any case, with most people on strict data limits, free wifi is going to be the way people watch a YouTube clip or a vid on Facebook/Twitter while out and about. Some radio apps use AAC+ which uses less mbps than mp3.

I'm probably reading into this too much but why does the male voice say 'Tesco points' rather than 'clubcard points'. Also, is the 'this item can now be placed in your bag' a replacement for the 'unexpected item' bit of speech - if so how on earth do they mean the same thing? One of them tells you to put the item in your bag and the other tells you to take it out!
