Sainsbury's were always "baskets only" (as well as "cash only" - could never understand the point of the latter, especially post Chip and PIN).
The only time I've seen an item limit enforced was at Tesco in the Victoria Centre, where they briefly had a 3 item limit at the kiosk - and wouldn't let you even pick up a pack of chewing gum put there to upsell. Idiots.

With Morrisons rolling back the years and bringing back the '10 items or less' checkouts, it can only be a matter of time before they bring back the revolutionary 'well hung' banana cage. Then their transformation really will be complete.

In another retrograde decision, self-checkouts will be replaced with manned express checkouts.

TVF's London Lite.
That's very obviously a reporter misinterpreting what we're already talking about. Potts was quite clear that the self checkouts would remain.Martin Phillp wrote:In another retrograde decision, self-checkouts will be replaced with manned express checkouts.

Yes - The Grocer have elaborated by saying the 1000 express lanes will utilise existing checkouts in stores.WillPS wrote:That's very obviously a reporter misinterpreting what we're already talking about. Card processing was down in my store today. (And I suspect nationally?) Cue a massive queue for the ATM's and the security guard and tannoy announcements about being cash only.

How odd. When cards go down at Sainsbury's, credit/debit card imprints will be taken (and manually keyed in once the systems come back). I guess Morrisons wont risk liability.Martin Phillp wrote:Card processing was down in my store today. (And I suspect nationally?) They still do that? That doesn't sound very PCI compliant.WillPS wrote:How odd. So long as the slips go in the till and the till is emptied at least once a day (and transferred to a safe) it's completely PCI compliant.all new Phil wrote:They still do that? Have you ever noticed when using your card in a retailer (the most notable example in my head is Aldi) they'll print themselves a slip off before printing yours/your receipt? Sometimes the retailer's slip will contain all the card's face details, which is basically a workaround for PCI compliance.

Our tills no longer print a 'retailer copy' of card receipts. We are strictly not allowed to record card details. In fact, we're advised not to touch somebody's card at all. Anything card-related is done via the chip and pin reader and this can't be manually overridden.
Before the till update to remove retailer copies, we had to shred any card receipts.
