DanielK has posted a comment in the Sky News thread where he asserts that an auto tuned advert for the referendum is the kind of thing to get young people 'in my audience' to engage with the referendum.
This advert makes Sky out to be the cool, hip, young ones that does things like that and uses loads of cool stuff. People in my audience that has seen this advert would probably tune in to Sky to find out what's going to happen to their future.
His use of the word 'hip' suggests to me he is either a lot older than we previously thought and wants to connect with da yoof, or that he is uncool himself. Meanwhile, I'm not sure he understands the mindsets of people, as while it's the kind of thing that could go viral, I don't think people are going to be switching over in droves to watch Referendum coverage!

He also states 'we haven't been told enough' - I think the TV debates, special referendum programmes, documents like the white paper and news reports have told us quite a bit!

I so resisted the erge to post 'alright Grandad' after that.

The Advert in question also is in noway cool or 'hip' and if they were going for the youth audience, like myself, then they have gone in the completely wrong direction as it made me cringe with horror.

I'm sure he'll be devastated to hear that.

Personally I thought it was a bit over the top the reactions to a simple trailer. It's different, it's fun, it's alternative, which is surely what any news channel does to differentiate itself in a market (especially in a market where you are competing with the commercial-free BBC). It shows that the news doesn't have to take itself so seriously like it tended to do back in the mid-00s (cough, ITV News, cough).

Of course the referendum is a serious subject, it doesn't mean they're suddenly going to start auto-tuning every report about it.

As am I. I'm sure he takes my opinions very seriously... Image

Yes I agree that some of the replies to the advert were a bit over the top, to the extent that reading some of them felt like reading the comments section of the Daily Mail website! I don't think the trailer was made to twist the words of politicians and agree that's it nice and different.

Sorry, it just seems childish and ultimately pointless to be debating over whether his argument has credibility because of his 'coolness' and the use of one word. Sure, he may not be in the 'youth' audience that Sky is targeting with their new Stand Up, Be Counted campign, but is there any evidence that the advert is aimed at that audience? They use Queen and Rick Astley songs (as well as Taylor Swift) for instance.

Let's face it though, we're posting on a television presentation forum, and a forum that discusses a television presentation forum. I don't think any of us are in a position to be deeming whether others are cool or uncool!

Definitely - twisting the words of politicians? I would hope that nobody in their right mind would take away from David Cameron "singing" We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together that it represents a political or ideological stance.

P.S. My name has one 'l', not two. ;)

It looks like it's just a general error page (and the contact link redirects back to it), so I wouldn't say it's scheduled maintenance.

It appears that some relatively new members are organising the next Gallery Design Challenge meets APFS Challenge. Not sure why MatthewFirth is arranging it but there we go (although looking back it appears he posted a design challenge before under his own steam, which received 0 entries). Looks like it was going to appear on TVF but apparently they need to promote 'the new site' more so are going to attempt to get people to sign up elsewhere? The new site appears to be running on some free hosting courtesy of some wiki software, for some reason.
