Flytipping

i'm not a proper hiker or anything, but i love walking and exploring the countryside.

until recently, i'd never really seen much in the way of flytipping here other than on the side of backroads.

last couple of weeks, i've seen quite few instances of huge amounts of rubbish dumped in places where it would take a fair bit of effort to get to. take a look here - these are a load of fridge-freezers cut in two, and burned and dumped in woodland - along with a few tyres and other bits of junk.



here we have a load of burnt builders rubble dumped down a farm track.



are you generally of the view that perhaps, local councils should just let people take all their rubbish (including commercial) down the tip so i can disposed of correctly? perhaps adding a small cost to the rates of commercial premises to cover the cost?

it seems such a shame to have our beautiful countryside ruined by this, a side effect of making it too difficult to get rid of waste and whilst in theory those dumping this rubbish should be tracked down and made to pay for the cleanup, i think maybe the easiest solution would be to just make it part of what we pay our council tax for?

As a commercial ratepayer, I'd say it'd be a bit unfair to whack all the extra cost on business rates - our business on an average week will generate about 4 Tesco bags of rubbish. But then I've no idea how else you might go about absorbing the cost, and I totally agree something has to be done about it.

Isn't there some scrap value in fridges? I know my parents had a load of metal rubbish that they had tucked down the side of their house for about a week and some chap just turned up and offered them a fiver to take it all away.

I think a small charge if you are too lazy to go and properly dispose of your rubbish would make sense, with people who sort go to dispose of their rubbish correctly and send it to the appropriate places allowed to do so for free, as there's then an incentive to not be lazy. However, I imagine this would generate Daily Mail headlines for a good week, and then people would continue to fly-tip because it's free to do so.
