A confession: I accidentally watched The One Show tonight, which had an abysmal reveal of the Commonwealth Games Baton, which I gather is much like the Olympic torch except not on fire.

It's very nice. Here it is:

Besides these two things, it's the first time I saw something else. Something we'll arguably see a lot more of than the baton:

I mean, it certainly makes sense as a mascot for Scotland but...

...isn't it a bit shit?

It annoyed me how they acted as if we all knew what Queen's baton was. Is this an old traditional or did they feel we needed another Olympic torch relay?* Is there a bulb in there for it to light up? It is nice though.

*Seems to be an old tradition.

Is this the moment to reiterate that I was a performer in the 1986 Edinburgh Games?

It would seem so.

The first Queen's Baton was designed and used in a Relay for the 1958 Games in Cardiff (seemingly taking an idea from her cousins, the Nazis) .

The baton itself was then forgotten about in the archives of the Welsh National History Museum at St. Fagans, Vale of Glamorgan, until somebody asked about it.

Don't worry - you've posted them on here before, which I noticed while looking over METRO GOLD threads.

That looks more like the microphone they should have been using to interview the bloke that brought the baton.

We are writing to let you know that have not been successful with your application for Glasgow 2014 tickets. The demand for tickets has been overwhelming with 2.3 million ticket requests made for up to 1 million tickets and it has simply not been possible to meet all requests.
I suppose the next step is trying to see if I can get work to send me there.
