Seems the BBC have got to grips with the trademark issue with the owners of Radio Six Music, the DAB identifier cleverly now reads R6M so the channel appears in the correct order of BBC Radio services on DAB sets.
Once selected the channel name extends to BBC Radio 6Music.
BBC R6M
Please elaborate. What trademark issue?DVB Cornwall wrote:Seems the BBC have got to grips with the trademark issue with the owners of Radio Six Music, the DAB identifier cleverly now reads R6M so the channel appears in the correct order of BBC Radio services on DAB sets.

The BBC cannot call the station Radio Six, owing to the trade mark/copyright on the name owned by WWW.RADIOSIX.COM. Hence having to refer to it as six music. Now using the identity BBC R6M gets over this and correctly locates the service in the alphabetical listings on DAB radios, Previously it appeared first in the listing of BBC Stations.

Ah yes, Radio Six International. Interesting how they can trademark a generic broadcasting term and a number. There are other Radio 1s and Radio 2s out there (BFBS, RTE) so it's a shame the BBC's hand has been forced.
I do respect Tony Currie's endeavour and dedication to the art of radio however.
It's only fairly recently though that they've used "Radio" in the title - when it was launched it was just plain BBC 6 Music.

They still do, it's only BBC 7 that was renamed BBC Radio 7. The logos now all include 'BBC Radio' and apparently they are called 'BBC Radio 6Music' on DAB so they all appear correctly in the list on alphabetically-stored DAB sets.Pete wrote:Iirc didn't all the digital stations lack 'radio ' originally due to some "digital means beyond radio " guff?
Also I think originally BBC 1Xtra was '1Xtra from the BBC', however that's changed now.
