Same here... I can watch it now, but could never watch it back then. Whenever Noel's House Party ever came on, I had to go upstairs to my room and not come down until it finished.

The close of News at Ten used to scare me as well, especially when the ITN logo zoomed in. That scared the bejesus out of me.

Which I still instinctively associate with being totally shit at the second act of the Chemical Plant Zone, where rapid increase in stress correlated with an inability to jump up the submerging sliding blocks of misery :(

That zone was one I struggled with a hell of a lot as a young'un. And what was my reward for defeating that water? A zone called "Aquatic Ruin Zone" with, predictably, more water. Joys...

Snap! Anything ITN logo related caused an early retreat to bed, as did blank screens after closedowns or whatever.

Two that stick out for me are:
[Wiki|IMDB] The Children of Green Knowe
[Wiki|IMDB] Moondial

Both of which totally terrified me - I think it was a moving statue of St Christopher in The Children of Green Knowe, but I can't remember what specifically scared me about moondial. Weirdly, I still seemed to watch them.

Thing is, I love watching scary stuff on TV now - I guess it's something to do with being taken up with the magic of television in my early years, mixed with a less sceptical imagination.

I also have some vague memories of watching a single episode of some programme with my parents one Saturday night where the drama seemed to revolve around some hooded figure, people dieing and possibly, Bergerac... had dreams about that hooded character for some time after!

Newsflashes were the worst... I had to run out of the room whenever they appeared, they were so scary.

The child catcher on chitty chitty bang scared me as a small child, then when i grew up the horror of the childcatcher came back to haunt me when i used to go to the rotunda in Folkestone. The man in the ticket booth looked just like him.
When i was about 12 my brother and myself decided it would be a good idea to watch a video called the bogey man followed by mad max 1. What is more disturbing than the nightmares that followed is that my aunt and uncle watched them with us. They should have known better than to let me continue watching the bogeyman.
Very irresponsible of them. If Esthers child line was about in those days i'd have reported them to her ;)
Mental anxiety, Mental breakdowns, Menstrual cramps, Menopause... Did you ever notice how all our problems begin with Men?

Then again, it was the idea. I'm not sure if this was the version we got shown, or whether we got the one fronted by Keith Chegwin. Also not sure what the thought process was when casting: "We want dignity and gravitas. GET ME CHEGGERS".
