The big heavy mugs used in stores, which Willson-Rymer said had become a "bit dated", are being replaced with bone china as the company responds to increasingly sophisticated coffee consumers and tough competition on the high street.

They're replacing them with bone china? Sounds a great idea to me, I've never been a fan of the mugs.

Well then, as they're getting rid of them, I may as well steal as many as I can.
I think they use china in the Conduit Street store, and they're rather fancy things. Very pretty.

Y'all just sit there reading your books drinking coffee then, or are you all busy typing away at your screenplays?

This reminds me of the AMAZING John Barrowman's part in Desperate Housewives, which I only watched to laugh at.

Haven't seen it. But I was thinking of Peter Griffen observing men who like to be seen on their laptops in coffee shops.

Under Consideration's Brand New has an article on the new Starbucks logo. Plus the website is generally great for company rebrands. Geek heaven.

Another follower of Brand New. :) Pretty much the successor to Speak Up, but now focused directly on new logos and/or brand changes. Has an avid designer community and the opinions are very well-thought out. Even has a conference now.

Yep, it's a variation of the Conduit Street mugs.
From experience, I know they have a T, G or V depending on size impressed into the handle. They're a lot lighter, and easier to drink from.

I quite liked the slab-like feeling of the old mugs. Those ones look more like Costa's.

I find the whole rebrand really dumb. Dropping the word "coffee" because they don't just sell coffee is ridiculous. Every single coffee shop sells more than just coffee. Should 'Boots' rebrand because they don't sell shoes? Should 'vodafone' rebrand because they don't just sell phones?
Nobody calls it Starbucks Coffee - everybody calls it Starbucks.

Nobody called F. W. Woolworth "F W Woolworth" - or even "Woolworth", hence they rebranded to "Woolworths"

As rebranding goes, it makes sense to me.
