There is no perceptible small-print on their in-store signage apart from "see customer service desk for terms and conditions".
Then the old adage - if it looks to good to be true then it probably is comes in to play. Never will a supermarket give you £40 of gift vouchers on any £40 spend in store, just will not happen - there is not anything like a 50% markup on supermarket goods, they work on much tighter margins but in massive volumes. The TV advert was particularly clear about the offers which the book contained.

Very occasionally Tesco do promotions where they'll give you several hundred points, which when you multiply as per their Clubcard Rewards scheme you end up with more in Rewards than you spent in cash; of course the value the Clubcards rewards go against is rarely anything like the value you actually pay, e.g. a day ticket for Alton Towers costs £40ish and so at the moment you need £10 of Clubcard vouchers (£40 of Clubcard Rewards) vouchers to buy one, yet Half Price offers for Alton Towers are available even just as printable vouchers so the actual cash price paid is far more likely to be £20. In other words, the scheme isn't as good as it implies; one of my pet hates in the Money Saving E-mail is when they refer to "£x profit" in these situations - profit is not divided in limited use "reward vouchers", it is cash.

Like I said back a few posts ago, you're best finding the supermarket that delivers best value for your needs and then enjoying and loyalty scheme they offer.

oh indeed. I always convert my tesco vouchers to pizza express vouchers however it means i cannot take advantage of any of their other offers at the time such as their constant buy one get one free on main courses.

Still, you end up paying £15 for the wine and getting £80 of food on the vouchers so I still think its worth it :)

Definitely - if you shop at Tesco anyway they are worth it.

I used a load of mine up to buy a Merlin Annual Pass (for Alton Towers, Thorpe Park, Chessington, Legoland and all the touristy Madame Tussauds and Sea Life things). They are definitely the most effective way of using your Clubcard vouchers at the moment (although that's set to change next month when they go from being 4x to 3x value). However, it's only a perk and the amount of discount it offers is unlikely to be able to offer a good economic reason for switching.

Morrisons offer is only worth considering the switch if you only intend to spend £40 for 5 weeks, and have something in mind for the £25 and £5 vouchers. For the average family spend, you can either split your shop at Morrisons to get the value - or you might aswell not even factor it to the potential saving. Even if you can be bothered after all that, you'll have to reassess where to shop again in 5 weeks time as that is where the discount ceases,

Oh indeed. Of course I got enraged about the whole petrol issue too (they're changing it to 1 point for every £2) however i then realised I often avoid Tesco's petrol as its 3p more expensive than the shall garage down the road. In fact since they've not been as competitive on petrol (note it always creeps up when the £50 vouchers are on) I've only earned 141 points for petrol this quarter.

Can't believe they gave a whole news package over to what is essentially an occasional failblog picture.

Shall we revive a thread that's not been posted in for ages? Why the hell not.

What are everyone's thoughts on the current round of store renovations that Asda are carrying out? They tend to involve painting all the walls dark red. I find it a bit weird really - Asda's colour is green, so why make the store *so* red-looking?

Also - I'm not keen on this new style of packaging they've been rolling out over the past few months. They seem to do this every now and then - make everything look uniform, and then change their mind and make everything look different again. I can remember when they branded practically everything as 'Asda Great Value' or something, in some horribly cheap looking packaging.

And I still don't like the shelf-edge labels. Handwriting fonts looks awful when they are used for *everything*, especially at such a small size.

If the floor is fake wood then I suspect scrounger has been employed as their store designer.

Having been a loyal patron for 24 years I am really going off Asda.

Last week the price of a Yazoo milkshake went up from 70p to £1 (a couple of years ago it was only 48p).

I drink two of those per day so that's an extra £10 on my shopping bill each month alone.

I can't bring myself to start shopping at the nearby Tesco as I find the store unbearably sterile and unwelcoming but if Asda keep putting up prices then I'm afraid I'm going to have no option but to shop at Tesco (wearing sunglasses).

I like the new Asda packaging. It's like the 'Chosen by you' packaging, except without the 'Chosen by you' bit. I think the 'Chosen by you' packaging is very nice in itself, to be honest.

Diet Coke (2l) is my datum line for prices, but its all over the place at the moment.

A bottle is price marked at £1.36 in independent retailers, but Tesco are charging £1.78 for the same, and Scotmid are asking £2.04.

Both the bigger retailers are offering bulk deals - Tesco ran (essentially) a BOGOF deal, but you needed to buy two, i.e. carry four bottles home. Awkward. Scotmid offer a shrink wrapped four pack, but it is priced at £5.49.

Its ridiculous. The unit price ultimately resolves to being about the same across all vendors, buts its being painfully obfuscated by the makers - presumably to conceal the fact that its too bloody expensive. Its bad enough that it is - without adding an extra burden of having to bulk buy to avoid "simulated" price points of £2 a bottle on single units.

Bastards.
