Collaborative Calendar/Database

So, I've been asked by work (I work as an organist for an Abbey church) to come up with a computerised system of booking singers, making sure that we will always have the correct number appearing to sing in any given day.

Some sort of collaborative document would work well, as I could circulate login details to all those involved and they could then enter themselves when they would be available. Ideally we would be able to use recurring bookings (ie. one singer could set up that they would usually be available every Monday and would thus display), but also be flexible with one offs.

Do you guys know of any software that is capable of doing this? Is just setting up a Google calendar the best way, or is there a more refined system (the calendar interface could get a bit annoying, as we're not setting up appointments per se)?

Many thanks :)

The meeting planner bit of Outlook might be an option, but I've never delved deep enough to be certain it does everything you want. Probably worth a look, though. Outlook's certainly very good at things like recurring tasks.

If you want an online rota where people put themselves when they are available doodle.com does that.

Thanks both of you. For now I've just gone for the Google Spreadsheet, but I will bear both the other ideas in mind when setting stuff up for after Christmas. :)

Sorry to drag this thread back up from the depths, but I've one further query.

I've just gone for a basic Google Spreadsheet in the end, and circulated the link amongst all those who need it. Is it possible for me to view a list of changes as they are made? For example, if somebody was to delete the data in a cell, I would be told precisely which cell was edited. At the moment, I get an email telling me when changes are made, but the description is frustratingly vague, such as "values changed". Is there a way of getting more information than this?

Many thanks. :)
