Isn't that going to be part of iOS4 later this year?
I downloaded Backgrounder on the Jail broken 3G and found I didn't use it much. I dont think there is much need to any true multitasking aside from music and IM. The rest are fine using push. (This will also use less battery and data allowance) I don't understand why everyone is obsessed with multitasking on the phone. It may be just the way I use my phone so any explanation would be helpful. I may have an epiphany.

While I don't exactly engage in much EXTREME MULTITASKING on my Symbian phone (ew, I know) having it there is still invaluable, pretty much for the use cases you identify - jumping between eBuddy and Opera, or Spotify and - anything else. The things that are just about everyday enough to make me profoundly resent it being missing.
But without hijacking this into a 'MY GOD HOW AWFUL IS SYMBIAN' thread, MY GOD HOW AWFUL IS SYMBIAN!?
