Laptop LCD Cables

I'm trying to fix a laptop for someone which has a break in the screen cable (it's an Acer Extensa 7220). I *thought* it would be a relatively simple matter to order a new cable for it, but I'm not having much luck, either new or on ebay. The only one I've found is an America ebay item which will cost as much in postage as the item does, and whilst supposedly being compatible, doesn't look the same in the picture.

Does anyone know of a good supplier of such things?

used laptopbits before.

i've found in most cases that the cables are *exactly* the same as long as the screen size is the same.

i've swapped screens from toshiba and acer over, so you might be able to find a scrap one somewhere.

btw, how big is the screen... i might have something laying around i can send you...

It's a 17" display, the current one has 'Wistron Tangiz 17" SXGA LCD Cable' stamped on it along with a proprietary Acer part number which displays no results on Google.

There's a single connector on to the motherboard, at the other end there are two connecters; the main one onto the panel and the smaller one going to the screen inverter.

The panel itself is still working, it's just the backlight that's not. A bit of wiggling did make it fire up initially but now I can't get it to come on at all. Is there any chance that all this connecting/deconnecting has damaged the little inverter board do you think?

it sounds like it could be a faulty inverter, it will be quite difficult to tell if it's that or the tft panel backlight - i have the advantage of having a few carcasses around that i can swap things out of to test.

certainly in my experience when there is no backlight it's either the inverter or the panel itself, i've never known for a cable to fail, but it's not beyond the realms of possibility.

i do have one kicking around, it's got

WINSTRON Columbia 50.4T301.001
HIGH-TEK (L200) REV A01
08/08/16

printed on it. i've got a feeling it's for a 15", but if you want it i can send it to you.

Acers are notorious for faulty inverters. My last Acer needed its inverter replaced (£90 job) and this current one is flickering madly..... :S
