Spoke again to Orange today.

They can offer a Blackberry curve or an LG GT505, even though Nokia's site has a wealth of UMA handsets.

So, if I'm not going to get what I want then I will move on. Anyone aware of any great deals with other providers? I'm unlimited texts and some several hundred x-net anytime minutes for £25 currently.

The battery in my current phone is getting a little weak, so I think a new handset is in order.

I see the same model of BB is on Vodafone too - and its free with the same contract cost (albeit I would be missing the added bundles I've gained); so Orange really aren't trying very hard to keep me.

Oooh - mind you, Vodafone's SIM only is good with 600 anytime minutes and 3000 texts for £20 per month.

I was JUST about to point you to them :) Perhaps you should order some free SIMS from various providers and see how reception is (at least in terms of how many bars you get)

Also I've heard that just cold calling various networks and asking what they can do for you tends to yield at least slightly better deals than their websites list

I've gone somewhere in the middle there and am chatting to a vodafone rep in a live chat window.

I can't tell if he's a bot. He sounds like a bot.

Or a cheesy salesman.

Chat InformationYou are about to be connected to a new connection sales adviser for Vodafone UK. Please note they do not have access to existing customer details and cannot process orders or upgrades. If you have a query of this nature please contact customer services.

Chat InformationYou are now connected with Mak.

You: Hi

Mak: hi

Mak: how are you today ?

You: Great thanks. Need some help. I'm currently with Orange, but don't receive a signal in my new property, so need to consider moving network.

Mak: Cool

Mak: We cover 80% Uk coverage

You: I know that Vodafone covers my flat as I have checked with friends.

You: I'm looking to match my deal. I pay £25 per month and get 3000 texts and 600 minutes. Is that something you can offer?

Mak: yes

Mak: We do have the amazing phone for £20

You: Which one?

Mak: Samsung, Genio slide,QWERTY keyboard or slick touch screen? The Samsung Genio Slide has both. Type emails and texts in no time. Go to websites by tapping your customised home screen. And snap happy faces every time, thanks to a 3.2 megapixel camera with smile detection.

You: The features look ok - but I prefer Nokia handsets. Do you have any in that range?

Mak: yes we do ahve

Mak: Have*

Mak: Nokia, 5230,Qwerty keyboard +2 megapixels +Touch screen

You: ok I'll have a look at that one.

You: i see the offer is for a 24 month contract - do you have any on shorter terms?

Mak: yes you can get 18 months contract

You: ok. I'll have a better look this evening after work.

You: thanks for your help.
