Hehe! Yes, I chose 973 instead of 987 for my 6.30pm entertainment tonight!

It's a smear campaign, apparently.
A UTV reporter gets bollocked by Gerry Adams yesterday, 01:44 onwards for the money shot:

Gratifying for us Sharon O'Neill haters. Mind you, Adams' agitation may speak for itself.

No sign of journalistic impartiality there eh?
As an aside, it pisses me off that there's always a sector of society determined to undermine the last 13 years' progress. Everyone knows Adams et al have blood on their hands in one way or another, but the work he does now while he's able to be politically active will give the next generation a better chance than if groups like TUV get any leeway.

Of course he should, which he was, and he denied. As of that first statement, he's on record as refuting/repudiating the allegations. However she then asks the same question over and over with an accusatory tone, which leads me to suspect her of making her mind up and persisting until she gets an answer or reaction that she (or UTV) wants. It's a classic newspaper tactic - make a story up out of suggestive evidence and then put the onus on the target to deny it, in the process making the target look shifty and a liar. Of course we know Gerry Adams (allegedly) IS a shifty liar, but amateurly haranguing him on national TV doesn't help expose that.marksi wrote:I'm confused by what you mean. Presumably you don't know the background to the questioning and why it's not just an age old question brought up for no reason.

Peter Robinson gives an extraordinary interview to BBC Northern Ireland's Seamus McKee.

I have an awful lot of trouble with Northern Ireland politics.
I can never tell the difference between Peter and Iris and Mike and Martin.

I haven't said this to anyone for at least a decade but, Alexia, wise-up.
Adams' retort simply came across as threatening - though also rather pathetic now that the IRA - of which he was never a member - guns have gone. It won't go away - nor should it.
As for Robinson, he's surely toast now. His erstwhile supporters may have tolerated his intolerance, but not the stench that surrounds him now.
Generally, for too long politicians in Northern Ireland have been indulged in the name of "the Peace Process". A lot of what passes for politics in NI is rotten, at last the media seem to be waking-up to that and challenging it. If the peace is at risk because of proper scrutiny, then it hasn't been a true peace anyway, has it.
More power to the elbow of investigative journalism, better late than never, good on ya!
