Re: Microsoft test browser selector for Windows. Firefox whi
Worth noting that said ballot screen appeared on my newly reformatted netbook as an important update. As it already had firefox as default it appeared to do nothing after the reboot. It's not showing on the list for the main PC however. I've set IE as default as an experiment to see if it appears.

It came down with the Microsoft updates on Wednesday morning this week.
As I understand it, it is being tested this week for some users in several countries including the UK. I also believe that now the top 5 browsers are being displayed in a random order.
Could be interesting if companies forget to reject the update - could cause choas and confusion.

Well I finally saw the thing and it wasn't exactly exciting, just triggered a download for the browser of choice. Hardly the nicest bit of UI but still.
Onto a more exciting subject, MS have released a little gizmo called "IE9 Platform Preview" which is essentially a chromeless window that has IE9's rendering engine in it for you to test things in. FAB

Yes, the problem with including no browser at all is... how do you obtain a browser without one there to start with?Hymagumba wrote:Er, no actually. That idea was ditched in August after the EU said the ballot screen was an acceptable compromise. As you'll know, Microsoft aren't shipping Internet Explorer with Windows 7 in some European countries

there's always telnet. I recall my Windows 98 Tiny machine had a whole chapter devoted to how to download Winzip from their BBS.Inspector Sands wrote:Yes, the problem with including no browser at all is... how do you obtain a browser without one there to start with?

I recently finally gave away my Tiny Win98 machine. Guess it was nostalgia that kept it, memories of Freeserve and IE4 Channels.Hymagumba wrote:there's always telnet.
