Just a quick question, just wondered if anybody has any experience of ebay where things go wrong:
i sold a kit lens which came with my camera. i've had the camera a while but didn't use the lens. the lens worked and it was tested before it was sent out.
the buyer has already left positive feedback and a message that he was pleased that the lens was 'as new', which was how i described it.
a couple of days later he reports that he has now tried it with his camera and it doesn't work.
i am 100% certain it worked before it was sent. i have photographs taken with the lens a few months ago. it's actually been on my camera twice. one of those times was to test it before i listed it.
where do i stand on this ?
it says on the royal mail claim form that i need to send the packaging and lens to them to process the claim.
i've offered him the opportunity to send the lens back to me so i can fill in the royal mail claim form or send him the original proofs of posting so he can do it himself. i also suggested he send the lens back to cannon to see if they will fix it under warranty - it's still under warranty.
i don't want to issue a paypal refund because as far as i am concerned, he was sent a 100% working lens. if it really isn't working (and i have no reason to doubt what he says, he has 100% feedback and the lens was sold for a relatively small amount) then it was damaged in transit. but obviously it has no physical signs of being damaged in transit. so is it likely royal mail will pay out?
anybody had anything like this happen to them ?

I've had a couple of things go missing as a buyer, and I know the "proper" method for refunding is that the seller issues a refund straight away and then claims for the parcel themselves to get their share. One thing I find fucking scandalous about Royal Mail's claims procedure is that you don't get the cost of postage back when you claim, despite the service not being provided.

My mum ordered something off ebay and it didn't arrive, she rung the person and they were adamant it had been sent, a while later they refunded her and when she tried to buy another thing from the person she found she was blocked.
I'm not sure you can specifically block users, just users that don't meet certain criteria such as unpaid item strikes, shit feedback scores and having bought x number of items from you in the past x weeks, so she probably fell foul of one of those.
