Aye but IIRC it was a one-off show with a novelty song that they were releasing as a laugh -- it took everyone by surprise that it eventually got to number 1.

LOL - it was performed live and the band were asked not to swear.

That's like asking kids not to do something - like a red flag to a bull.

Oh live? You'd think they'd have been a bit more on the ball with the faders then!

Apparently Nicky Campbell was really getting into it...

The song was eventually interrupted by desperate host Shelagh Fogarty shouting: "Get rid of it". She then explained: "Sorry. We needed to get rid of that because it suddenly turned into something we weren't expecting. "Well, we were expecting it, and had asked them not to do it, but they did it anyway, so buy Joe's record." Stuttering co-host Nicky Campbell later admitted being too "engaged" with the track.

So the people had a choice between, Newcastle, factory pop idol or some person complaint about music industry.

It seems RATM has won it,

I've no sympathy for Joe since he had the unmitigated audacity to claim that he's anything but gay. That "I'm straight but girls can wait" headline on the front page of The Sun took the piss - either be open about it or keep it schtum, but there's no need to lie. 'Girls can wait while I concentrate on my career' would've done the job without actually lying, but "I'm straight"?? Purlease.

Then the fact the press have been refering to him as "Little Geordie Joe" for months on end hasn't really endeared me to him either. He's not little, he's an 18 year old man! The whole thing has just been so prissy and pretentious, so to be honest I'm kind of glad he didn't get to number one.

I didn't realise you were such good friends with him Chie. Because obviously that's the only way you would know. That or there's some tell tale sign that you're aware of.

Well let's look at the evidence:

- Idolises George Michael and Luther Vandross, both of whom are/were gay,

- Is Cheryl Cole's number one (and only) fan,

- Spent three months generally acting like a little girl,

- A facial expression of faux surprise rivalled only by that of the late Kenneth Williams every time his name was announced during the results,

- Felt the need to insult the gay community by publicly declaring his supposed heterosexuality even though no-one was really questioning his sexuality to begin with, and it's not like his biggest fanbase of middle-aged and older women would've minded anyway.

So who lives in a closet like this? It's over to you...
