Samsung Galaxy S II v iPhone 4
Evening all - hope you're okay.
Appreciate with all the speculation about iPhone 5 coming up this summer and iOS5 out in the autumn, this may not be the best time to ask, but my contract with an iPhone 3GS is coming to an end and I'll be looking to change my phone in the next few months.

Re: whyPhone?
Well, the economy in my switch is borne from the peculiarities of the way the staff work.
The CEO has a PA, and they seldom call each other out of hours - just email; so I can dispense with the PA's phone and give her an iPad.
The CEO and her partner (a director) like to have two separate ...

Re: whyPhone?
Am also considering ditching my work blackberry, which I mainly use for data not calls, and moving to an iPad. I just have to justify the cost of buying the iPad!

Re: whyPhone?
Sorry to drag this back up and slightly off topic, but didn't want to clutter up the board with a new topic on a similar subject...!

Local Radio - Is there money in it?
Today has seen GCap start its daytime networking, GMG are starting more and more networking in the evenings and at weekends and TLRC has today sold more of its loss making radio stations.
So, is there money to be made in local radio and, if so, is there a future for it or will we move to a system ...

Re: Dead Air
Although now (unless the BBC are very behind the times!), it's less carts stacked up than commands being fired electronically to play from that local station's computer. Very clever. When it works.
Re: Dead Air
If you were at the station I think you were at (guessing from your username), it wasn't that one... but I think it might have been a problem common to many stations in the same group. ;)
Yes - indeed it was. I remember the phone calls at all hours of the night... 'er, your backup tape is on for ...

Re: Dead Air
You weren't listening to my former radio station were you? Am sure that happened several times in my early days (ie. before I was in charge!)...
Happened because the playout system had two commands - one to turn on the network commands, one to turn on the network audio. Do one and not the other and ...

Re: Replacements for DAB?
One of the big issues on DAB for commercial radio is that currently the smaller local radio stations (which you may or may not think serve a purpose!) can not exist on DAB.
You've hit the nail on the head.
I'm a great believer in true local radio, rather like ILR was in its formative years. If I ...

Re: Replacements for DAB?
One of the big issues on DAB for commercial radio is that currently the smaller local radio stations (which you may or may not think serve a purpose!) can not exist on DAB - the multiplexes cover areas far larger than small stations do and there just isn't the room for them all to exist.
