Re: Old supermarket signage

The Wilkinson sign conversely is very old! I think the white version of the logo with black drop shadow stopped being used in the late 70s.
...
The branch on the A60 going into Nottingham still had a version of that logo (but on an arrow rather than a stripe) until very late in its life.

It ...

Re: What's going on with all this gender stuff?

They clarified a point in the Equality Act 2010.

Nothing has changed. It still isn't complicated.

Re: Old supermarket signage

The Starbucks across the road in the former Happy Eater is well worth a visit to appreciate its ridiculously stylish roof.

Apparently it was a Little Chef, according to its Wikipedia page . I do like a hyperbolic paraboloid in a building.

Happy Eater was merged in to the Little Chef chain ...

Re: Old supermarket signage

Going back to the topic of Little Chef, the Markham Moor North store near Retford was split in half in 2014 to make the right hand side into a Subway, which only closed last year. When they removed the Subway signage the original red paintwork was exposed. The left side, which is now a KFC, still ...

Re: The Barclays and other non-Lloyds/TSB Bank thread

In fact, almost nowhere uses the magnetic stripe and they will begin being removed from cards altogether imminently:

The exception are cards which aren't traditional credit or debit cards. For example, prepaid high street ...

Re: Will the UK ever adopt DAB+?

Huge swell of pre-DAB+ radios expected in charity shops over the next months then I guess.

If you know what you're doing, a lot of old Pure DAB radios can be plugged into your computer and have their software upgraded to DAB+.

Worth knowing. I don't normally see Pure radios though, it's ...

Re: The Barclays and other non-Lloyds/TSB Bank thread

Just got a pleasant surprise in the post. Two days ago I visited a Virgin Money branch to request a new debit card as my current one wasn't working in certain third party ATMs (it was being spat back out without even letting me enter the pin due to the black stripe being damaged - it worked fine ...

Re: High Street chain collapse sweepstake

I know there's a cost to rebrand but I'm surprised they didn't just sell off the WHSmith name with it.

It's not like anyone goes into a train station and thinks, ooo there's a WHSmith I'm going in there - it's more I need something, ugh I'll have to go to WHSmith.

Least now when the High Street ...

Re: Yet another Morrisons thread

Looking forward to the new jingle:

🎶 Fewer reasons to shop at Morrisons 🎶

Seriously though, the fish and hot food counters are/were the main reason I'll occasionally take a trip to a Morrisons. Seems nobody wants to sell me a hot rotisserie chicken any more.

Which rotisseries are closing? I ...

Market Kitchen is no more, although if the store by me is anything to go by it's been all-but-gone for years already.

Lots of cafes, pharmacies and florists going. Some of the convenience stores ...
