Digital voice switchover

My parents have a landline phone with Virgin Media and have been sent an adapter and informed of a switchover date to the new fibre digital voice system.

I was just wondering if anyone else has been switched and had experience of this? The letter says to move the main phone from the old master socket, to the phone port on the WiFi router, on the day of the switchover, but no particular time is given. Does the old line get cut off early or is it still active for much of the day? I'm hoping for a smooth switchover.

If it's the same as the Sky changeover, the network seems to detect a phone plugged into the router and the old copper line goes dead in about ten minutes.
