Why are the youngsters getting so obsessed with wanting a Requests and Gallery forum?

No idea. I never really ventured into the gallery on TVLF unless I was particularly bored. I don’t think I ever went in the requests part. I get it though, I used to come up with a few mock designs in the past but I don’t think any of the newer members will beat my mock weather forecast featuring a tiny Paul Hudson, or the Owen Thomas News Channel (which somehow made its way onto his personal website).rob wrote: Sun 31 Jul, 2022 13.31 Why are the youngsters getting so obsessed with wanting a Requests and Gallery forum?

It might surprise some, but I'm not particularly bothered by no Gallery. My understanding is that to get a Gallery forum done properly, i.e. with previews etc. like on TVF, would require a lot of code customisation - which is a lot of faf if the mods aren't particularly bothered by it. It will mean that the forum misses out on the occasional gem, but, let's be frank, they have always been few and far between (Critique's Breakfast studios are the only recent mock that has stood out for me).
Broadly, I think I'm leaning towards Pres Cafe, but feel I will wait to see which forum the more 'senior' members of the community plump for before joining either.

Can someone just flip a coin and decide which is the successor please. CBA signing up to three different forums
I think the only reason the Gallery sort-of worked on TVF was because people could be brutally honest about the quality of the poorer mocks. That isn't in keeping with a friendly welcoming forum though, so it's a fine line to tread - and I can completely see why a new site would want to avoid the headache.
I still think there is a place for high quality mocks in the rest of the forum though, but only where someone is illustrating an idea / comment or they have produced something of extremely high quality - those sort of mocks add to the conversation rather than subtract from it. The "I've spent two minutes on PowerPoint and downloaded a copy of ITV Reem" efforts on the other hand deserve to be destroyed on sight.

The lack of firm but fair criticism is certainly something that I have felt on the Gallery in recent years. There has definitely been an element of 2* mockers congratulating other 2* mockers on their excellent Paint designs, to the extent that people trying to uphold things like safe zones or broadcast safe colours got shouted down.
While I understand that such bluntness might not be appropriate on a 'welcoming' forum, younger members do need a degree of criticism to improve. My early designs were shit (and I certainly didn't have the excuse of being as young as some others), I probably wouldn't have improved as much if people hadn't been very upfront and specific in their criticisms.
Illustrative mocks certainly have a place, but it's just the worry that too many could encourage those who will flood it with a hundred variations of the same basic idea - which would likely lead to the hammer being brought down on all designs, regardess of quality or relevance. I think this would always be a problem with certain topics - one of the problems with the Gallery was always the sudden slew of Good Morning Britain graphic redesigns or BBC total rebrand ideas.
