So, when's a guarantee not a guarantee? When it's the government's Energy Price Guarantee. These capped unit rates on your whole domestic bill now only in place until the end of March, it seems.

No detail on what happens next, but higher domestic bills for many seem likely.
It seems Martin Lewis may have got wind of this revised announcement overnight.

It's taken a while to finalise, but Bulb is becoming part of Octopus Energy from the end of November. Any profits made if any will be shared with the Government for up to four years.

Octopus are also, I think, the first supplier to incentivise customers to use less energy than usual at peak times. Rather than increasing unit prices, they're applying it as bill credit (or letting you donate it to charities).

They'll let you know a day in advance a 1-4 hour period where, presumably, they expect surge generation (eg coal or gas plants) would be fired up, then give you credits if you use less than you've historically used in similar time periods.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained, so I've signed us up. Some more info on how it works here.

They're already Octopus customers, all that changes is the branding associated with their account. Just the same as when the previous arrangement with SSE ended.

I was with Bulb, but I've now been switched to Octopus.

Bulb sent me temporary top up barcodes while my accounts were being transferred over. However, they didn't work. They apologised and sent me a £50 voucher as compensation.

It'll be interesting to see if they keep the broadband business (which first:utility started and grew considerably when they took over Post Office broadband).

broadband feels pretty non-core to them - I can see them selling it on to someone else pretty quickly.

That's what I thought but apparently the parent company does have ISP interests, including Cuckoo and Jurassic Fibre.
