I'm with EDF on a fixed deal until end of June next year. It wasn't the cheapest around when I signed up, but is starting to look like pretty good value. So, I'm smug.

Can confirm my first spanking took place on 1st July when my direct debit doubled - now on the Standard Variable Rate and subject to the Ofgem price cap.

For monthly direct debit customers, I assumed the Energy Bills Support Scheme would reduce monthly direct debits between October and March by £66.67 in order to deliver the £400 we've all been promised.

Got an email from my supplier EDF today that says they will be maintaining normal direct debits and then making separate payments to your bank account with the discount.

I guess this is so you don't get used to low direct debits and then blame the supplier when they shoot up again in April. Are other suppliers doing it this way too?

The cynic in me also suspects they'll make more interest on people's money this way. I've got quite a decent credit built up and they still email asking me to voluntarily increase my DD even further.

It depends on your supplier and how you pay - some are giving you the cash, some are reducing your direct debit for some months:

Personally I'd prefer to have it credited to my account and set my direct debit to the same level for the next year; rather than it going down a few months over the winter then back up again in the spring.
