The Co-op Thread
Just went to B&Q the other day and also missed the 'Please put the item back in the trolley' announcement because it apparently doesn't like plants. I heard it but I think I just thought it was a generic 'Unexpected item in baggage area' thing so waited for someone to tell me otherwise… felt a bit silly.
it's because plants get watered, so the weight is never consistentPhilip wrote: Sun 27 May, 2018 22.33 Just went to B&Q the other day and also missed the 'Please put the item back in the trolley' announcement because it apparently doesn't like plants. That's true of quite a lot of things in supermarkets (including, uh, plants) - but they just set them to accept a range of weights, or any weight at all.Pete wrote: Sun 27 May, 2018 23.22it's because plants get watered, so the weight is never consistentPhilip wrote: Sun 27 May, 2018 22.33 Just went to B&Q the other day and also missed the 'Please put the item back in the trolley' announcement because it apparently doesn't like plants. The newer style Wincor Nixdorf (who I believe are now Diebold Nixdorf) tills still have a money conveyor belt behind the scoop at the front, as I saw when one broke in Lidl recently.
Which is exactly how it works with the Morrisons salad bar (though the trays now have barcodes so you can't pretend the Extra Large tray is a Medium for the meal deal).WillPS wrote: Mon 28 May, 2018 00.58That's true of quite a lot of things in supermarkets (including, uh, plants) - but they just set them to accept a range of weights, or any weight at all.Pete wrote: Sun 27 May, 2018 23.22it's because plants get watered, so the weight is never consistentPhilip wrote: Sun 27 May, 2018 22.33 Just went to B&Q the other day and also missed the 'Please put the item back in the trolley' announcement because it apparently doesn't like plants. I went in yesterday having downloaded their app to see how useful it is.Pete wrote: Sun 27 May, 2018 22.25 I made the foolish error of going through the B&Q self scan with gardening stuff today.
Please leave it in the trolley... she whispers... then there's a 15 second wait for the scanner gun to start working again, at which point she screams PLEASE SCAN AN ITEM if I don't react within the first 10ms of the scanner turning back on again.
Truly woeful system. Now card only (not contactless tho because it's still 2010 in B&Q) as the cash thing was so shit it kept jamming up.
The self-serve till refused to scan my B&Q club card contained within the app...

I never get any of these issues when I use the self-checkouts at IKEA. Scanner gun even reads the QR codes for the IKEA Family card.
TVF's London Lite.
Did you use the gun or the fixed scanner? Only the guns can scan phones. They replaced them all specifically for this purpose (they went from white to black)Neil DG wrote: Mon 28 May, 2018 21.34I went in yesterday having downloaded their app to see how useful it is.Pete wrote: Sun 27 May, 2018 22.25 I made the foolish error of going through the B&Q self scan with gardening stuff today.

Tried gun first (because I had a strong suspicion about what you said being true), then fixed scanner.Pete wrote: Tue 29 May, 2018 08.48Did you use the gun or the fixed scanner? Oddly, it would scan the bar code from within the Google Pay app, just not theirs...

We'll probably both get banned though!
using the curves of the logo rather than it just being straight stripes makes it look like they've actually put more than 3 seconds thought into it.
I recently discovered the woman who led the content design of gov.uk and making that all readable went on to work on the co-op internal sitess
https://colleagues.coop.co.uk/
apparently the most important thing for co-op staff is that they are paid every four weeks, not monthly, meaning they have 13 pay days a year on odd dates. So what is the very first thing on the homepage?
