So this forum is pretty quiet but I thought it was worth making a new thread for the new DAB multiplex launching in a few months, as test transmissions have now started appearing in various places around the country, according to other sites. Sound Digital won the licence, and here's a slightly out of date website to remind you of the new stations that will be launching:

http://www.sounddigital.co.uk/

Since the licence was awarded however (and since that site was made), the idea of creating a brand new business radio station as 'talkBUSINESS' has been dropped, and the already existing Share Radio will take its place: http://radiotoday.co.uk/2015/10/share-r ... ess-on-d2/

Virgin Radio have a holding page up with a more modern logo design: http://virginradio.co.uk/

Anyone picked up a test transmission yet?

Am I missing something or is Planet Rock already on DAB? Is it moving across for more bandwidth / stereo?

As for Mellow Magic..... meh.... another 80s lovefest station - just what we need....

I don't think D2 know the meaning of the word stereo. They certainly don't understand giving stations enough bandwidth to sound any better than medium wave.

I blame that on Pure for selling tons of DAB sets with only one speaker and charging separately for the other!

So hang on. What's Absolute 80s and Heat currently on? I can already see both stations in my car. Is this an attempt to find a less congested Mux to increase quality (hahahaha) or is this something else?

I think being on D2 will be less expensive than being on D1. I don't know if that has something to do with the fact that fewer people will be able to receive it.

I wouldn't hold out any hope for increased quality… pretty sure most if not all will be in mono, unless at some point in the future they start moving them over to DAB+

Is Kate Lawler leaving the pre-recorded breakfast show on Kerrang then? Quite why Bauer haven't pulled the plug on that station completely I don't know.

I guess I'm talking to myself here, but Talk Radio is now broadcasting and Virgin goes on air from Wednesday 30th, and will be launching from a Virgin Train
The official re-launch of Virgin Radio will take place from a moving train on its way to London from Manchester on March 30th.

Edith Bowman and Matt Richardson will on on board, along with a number of bands.

It’ll be a special day for the train they’ll be riding on too – it will be named as the Virgin Radio Star and be wrapped in the Virgin Radio branding at the front and back.

Richard Branson, Virgin Group Founder, said: "Virgin is steeped in music history and I’m delighted that Virgin Radio is set to hit the UK airwaves once more. While many people thought the rise of digital would be the death of radio, it has instead enhanced the experience".
