I stumbled across this interesting theory at the weekend that Savile is now a convinient establishment scapegoat being used to deflect attention from more serious matters that potentially go right to the heart of the establishment.

The whole thing still seems a bit fishy to me. There's plenty of evidence to suggest it was an open secret he was noncing around, but if that was the case why was nothing done? People have come forward now saying "I knew" but why did nobody come forward until he died? Why did they not make an effort in life to see him face a fair trial in court?

Living near Scarborough, and having the benefit of local knowledge being passed on to me, it was well known that Jimmy Savile, and his good friend Peter Jaconelli, were active paedophiles. It was common knowledge, for example, that if you were an underage boy who worked in Peter Jaconelli's ice cream shops that he would try it on with you. It wasn't a coincidence that he employed a large number of young boys.

Put it this way, there are plenty of fact-based allegations of cover-ups, without having to resort to conspiracy theories.

Because some of those victims did tell the police, when he committed those offenses, but since he was a celebrity with a reputation for helping charities, nobody believed them. And he's not the only one. Same goes for Rolf Harris.

There are too many witness accounts which collaborate the methods used by Savile which more or less confirm that the actions are true.

Rather than just dismiss it all as "conspiracy" and walk away chuckling, it's worth looking at the very detailed forensic look at some of the people involved (by which I mean those charged with looking into the allegations)

"Anna Raccoon" was actually at the girls home (Duncroft) that was the source of the first allegations against Savile that sparked it all off and she fairly comprehensively demolishes the story about the allegations of what he did there elsewhere on her site.

Not to say any of this means Savile is innocent, but there's a big degree of media hype that suggests more than a few unsubstantiated allegations amidst whatever the truth might be. Not that I expect those views to get a fair hearing in the current climate.

Oh there was - and is - a massive amount of bandwagon jumping no doubt. It's like the allegations about Thatcher knowing child abuse was going on and turned a blind eye. That's only come out since she conviniently died.
