More cuts to the World Service. World Briefing to be replaced with 'The Newsroom.' The Strand axed. Cutting regional variations. And most concerning in my opinion, a move from 18 to 14 hours of news every day. :(

"Changes to the distribution of shortwave and medium wave will be announced soon". Probably only a couple of hours a day in English to Africa and Asia, I wonder if one of the relay stations will close too.

Internal sources also suggest:

nearly all Arabic on shortwave is to end (apart from broadcasts targeting Sudan)
the BBC Cyprus relay on SW is to close and English MW from Cyprus is also closing
BBC English World Service to Africa, the Middle East, and Asia is to be cut from 18 hrs a day on SW to 7 hours a day

They now have this story at the end of the World Service bulletins. While these services were always going to be in question, I am amazed they have dropped broadcasts to Syria at the moment.
