This rebrand announced earlier in the year, took place at 7pm tonight.

Will be interesting to see how this pans out, for some much loved heritage stations.

And don't forget The Wolf, The Severn & The Wyre (owned by UTV Media, owners of Talk Shite, sorry Sport!) all rebranded as one station, Signal 107, from midday today as well!

Now the former AM (& Dab) frequencies of BRMB, Beacon & Mercia, latterly broadcasting Gold with local inserts, have now rebranded as Free Radio 80's.

Understandbly the Gold listeners are unhappy with the situation.

'Free Radio Shropshire' as it appears on the RDS does sound like some sort of clandestine political radio station.... power to the people!

As for Gold, maybe this is because of the Global/GMG merger - it is thought that the plan is for Gold/Smooth to be combined when the combined company (assuming it gets cleared) go about rationalising their stations and brands. Either this is Orion pre-empting this or a regulatory thing

Anecdotal evidence from my recent visits to Nottingham suggests Gem 106 is doing quite well. It doesn't really surprise me since Trent was such a strong, local brand.
