High Street chain collapse sweepstake

49 stores have gone into administration with Teneo.

The remaining 70 stores along with the Homebase brand have been acquired by CDS Superstores who will convert them into The Range.

It's not clear at the moment which stores are under administration and those which are now under CDS management.

Homebase will remain as an online brand, all stores will continue to trade as Homebase until either store conversion or sold/closed.

I'm surprised Homebase still had 3-figure numbers of stores. A chunk were sold to Sainsburys a few months back too.

Presumably those 49 stores are doomed and will begin closing down soon, along with the Sainsburys acquired ones which are already closing down.

Same to be honest, I assume they're down South as most closed up here years ago, ironically a few becoming Range's.

Must be bleak for those working at places like Hexham and Bishop Auckland being stuck in limbo knowing you're one of the 49 stores (there's been a brand new Range open near both of them bery recently - past month or so).

Personally don't understand why there's any delay for them tbh.

I can see the London Homebase stores becoming The Range as they only have 5 stores either within the M25 with one just outside it at Lakeside.

Homebase have 13 stores within the M25.

I seen that, seems the landlords of a fair few Homebase stores have said no to The Range mind, as 120 or so current stores minus 74 doesn't equal 70.

Looks like The Range is down to 50 or so stores now.

That just stupid of the landlords saying not to some of the deals, I can't see who else will pick up store of that size. its just greed pure and simple, while the public misses out again.

Certainly risky. I assume Berwick and Alnwick are two of them as they're both on The Range's sites requirements. Alnwick being on Wilko's aswell.

Both would've been ideal but there's not much empty retail space, especially at that size, so guessing the landlord is chancing it for more rent.

Demand for retail park type units is quite strong still by comparison to most other types of retail.

Almost wondering how long before Asda ends up in here, with the total mess it's ending up under the Issa brothers.

It does beg the question, are the big four too big to fail? The repercussions of Asda going bust would be seismic for the UK and would lead to areas without proper food provision. Could the other three really expand that fast to pick up the slack?
