With regards to pay at pump I think Tescos seem to have the right approach, at least at my nearest store. Out of the 12 pumps 4 of them are pay at pump only. The remaining 8 have the option of either 'pay at pump' or 'pay at counter' during the daytime and early evening.

Originally 'pay at cashier' was available all day on those 8 pumps, though I believe within the past few years it was changed so that only the 'pay at pump' is available overnight. I'm guessing this change is mostly so that they don't have to staff the petrol station shop, as the Tesco Extra it's attached to has stopped being open 24/7 (under the reason/excuse of Covid). I imagine retailers also prefer the 'pay at pump' option as it reduces the possibility of people filling up and leaving without paying.

There's drive thru car washes at both Blyth and Hartlepool which aren't converted. There's also a Jetwash at both Ashington and Darlington aswell. They definitely exist.

On first glance I wondered if that was Silverlink which I think was the first drive-thru in Tyneside but its actually the one at West Denton. If you use the little go back in time tool it seems it had quite the retro drive thru until well into 2008 with it only getting the full refit to the modern style in 2017.

Had me intrigued so had a look at the planning sites appears to be

Cramlington, Gateshead (Metro Centre RP), Gateshead (Felling Bypass), Silverlink in that order for the Drive Thru's. Had a feeling it would've been Cramlington though all built in 1990/91

So in terms of Tyneside, yes it was Silverlink ;-)

Cramlington was defo the first full stop in the region. Can't remember if it had the soft play area from the start.

Sainsbury's is very much a supermarket that wants me to stop ordering online. Exhilarating. 9/10.
For the last week or so, the bonus points I receive on the Nectar app for shopping at Sainsbury's have increased a lot. I only spent just over £1 last Friday and they dished out 500 points, then others have been between 25-100 points. Normally I only receive between 5-15 points for buying anything that isn't on my product list.

Hmm. I've been getting "5x additional bonus points when you spend.." in the app for the last three weeks. Week 1 the qualifying spend was £40, but then £20 for the last two weeks.

I also got a Catalina coupon from the printer at the checkout last week that just says "thanks a bunch, here's £3 off" with a picture of a bunch of bananas. Never had that before.

That's in addition to checkout coupons for double points on petrol, but I get those quite frequently anyway.

Yes, I had the £3 off voucher a couple of weeks ago. They did x3 points first with no spending limit as a paper coupon, then £30 and then moved the promo without a spending limit to the Nectar app.

I got the 3x Nectar Points voucher and the £3 off today, as well as a 50 point post-shop bonus in the Nectar app.

Sainsbury's are closing the majority of their Cafe's - some to be run by external companies such as Carluccio's or Starbucks. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-60574697

Felt like something was happening. The one I go to the most has hugely reduced down its offer from a full hot food menu to essentially a Costa-style offer of hot drinks and sandwiches.

Not really clear what direction this market is going in. Morrisons seem to be going the other way - one near me has recently had a big refurb which involved extending the cafe and adding in a separate coffee shop that’s quite a size itself. I think Morrisons do it much better than Saino’s - prominent positions with a good and decently-priced menu, versus Sainsburys who seem to hide their cafes upstairs or out of the way and with not much exciting about them.
Thought this was a nice forum, clearly not.
