I suppose it allows them to do an “*excludes Local stores” on adverts if they’re only running an offer in full stores. I don’t think there’s any supermarket with a blanket brand for all stores is there?gottago wrote: ↑Wed 03 Jul, 2024 13.47 They're fitting out a new Sainsbury's Local between Shoreditch and Liverpool St, or at least I think it should be a Local as it seems to have no depth, but the signs in the windows so far are suggesting it's just "Sainsbury's". Possible phasing out of the Local brand? It did make me wonder if actually you do still need Local, Express etc in this day and age. We all know a city centre branch is going to be a small one with a tiny range so why flag it in the name? I guess it points out to some that there will probably be a price increase but is that something they want to flag as a company?

Personally prefer the different brands for the sizes of the stores. I wish there was more personally as there's many stores ie. Ponteland, Haltwhistle, Hartlepool and Saltburn which are absolutely tiny in the same brand as the ex Sava Centre's.gottago wrote: ↑Wed 03 Jul, 2024 13.47 They're fitting out a new Sainsbury's Local between Shoreditch and Liverpool St, or at least I think it should be a Local as it seems to have no depth, but the signs in the windows so far are suggesting it's just "Sainsbury's". Tesco do it the best imo with it based on the type of shopping, rather than size per say nowadays. ASDA is alright aswell with the Express / Supermarket / Superstore / Supercentre aswell even known they're not advertised in the store branding anymore.
I believe this is to allow the introduction of esels - at the moment the use of Nectar purple on the ticket itself is a blocker.scottishtv wrote: ↑Mon 17 Jun, 2024 13.23 Was asked about potential new 'Nectar Price' SEL designs in a survey:
Large convenience stores (i.e. those too big to stay open all day on Sunday) don't have the 'Local' part on their signage. You see them every now and then, they usually still have standard Local signage, including unfilled room for the word 'Local'.gottago wrote: ↑Wed 03 Jul, 2024 13.47 They're fitting out a new Sainsbury's Local between Shoreditch and Liverpool St, or at least I think it should be a Local as it seems to have no depth, but the signs in the windows so far are suggesting it's just "Sainsbury's". In what way? Are those plastic covers that'd go over the esel?WillPS wrote: ↑Thu 04 Jul, 2024 12.43I believe this is to allow the introduction of esels - at the moment the use of Nectar purple on the ticket itself is a blocker.scottishtv wrote: ↑Mon 17 Jun, 2024 13.23 Was asked about potential new 'Nectar Price' SEL designs in a survey:

Esel manufacturers don't make any which can do purple, I am told.Pete wrote: ↑Thu 04 Jul, 2024 16.47In what way? Yes, I think it must be - maybe a magetic lens or something... although that negates some of the labour saving.
The one in East Village (E20) was a Local but over 3000 sq ft. (Though it's now moved to smaller premises across the road and is open late on Sundays)WillPS wrote: ↑Thu 04 Jul, 2024 12.46Large convenience stores (i.e. those too big to stay open all day on Sunday) don't have the 'Local' part on their signage. Yes, there are a few exceptions (I think Bingham is another) but that tends to be the rule. As an example Nottingham Nuthall Road was always managed as a convenience location, but when it opened it traded as just Sainsbury's:thegeek wrote: ↑Fri 05 Jul, 2024 15.08The one in East Village (E20) was a Local but over 3000 sq ft. (Note the hanging sign is the exact ones used in Locals at the time, just with a weird blank space where the word 'Local' would normally be, and the incredibly low cash machine)
In 2015 they shrank the store down to 3000 sq.ft, expanded the Sunday hours, and the store became a Local:

The store closed in 2020.

Sainsbury's Local in Tottenham Court Road, which was formerly a Central also opens for 6 hours on a Sunday because it's a larger store.
TVF's London Lite.
The booze license in the window suggests it will be open till 11pm every day.WillPS wrote: ↑Thu 04 Jul, 2024 12.46Large convenience stores (i.e. those too big to stay open all day on Sunday) don't have the 'Local' part on their signage. 11pm is pretty much standard for an off-premises license, don’t think it necessarily means that’s what the opening times are.gottago wrote: ↑Thu 11 Jul, 2024 22.45The booze license in the window suggests it will be open till 11pm every day.WillPS wrote: ↑Thu 04 Jul, 2024 12.46Large convenience stores (i.e. those too big to stay open all day on Sunday) don't have the 'Local' part on their signage.
