Things that scared you as a child

when i was about 5 (maybe younger) i somehow managed to watch the film "poltergeist".

it made me scarred of the dark for years - in a way, film is the worst nightmare for a child: possessed toys, scary trees and a house built on graveyard. there are adults i know of who don't like that film. looking back, that little girl played her part very well, even the way she looks was kind of detached and empty.

what made you poo your nappy?

Can't remember anything about me, but my little brother was TERRIFIED of Pat Sharp's mullet. He used to run out of the living room shrieking when Fun House came on.

Tomb Raider used to scare me when I was very young.

also, ghostwatch (even though i was a teenager at the time it went out) scarred me and several of my friends. one of my school friends' little brother was absolutely terrified by it as i recall.

i remember myself feeling a little scared by a scene where the camera swept around room and seeing somebody standing in the corner and disappearing (if i recall it was a segment presented by craig charles)

Burglars. And murderers.

Especially murderers, funnily enough.

Martin Jarvis. Incredibly creepy. How was he ever allowed to appear on children's TV?

The "Play Safe" PIFs, which led to a general fear of pylons and substations.

The "Hot Spot" sound effect used on "Strike It Lucky"

I ran upstairs and hid under a pillow whenever Mystic Meg was on, which was a shame as I'd have loved the Lottery show otherwise.

Apparently, I used to cry every time Moira Stuart came on the TV! Looking back at video clips, I assume it was because of the HUGE scary hairdo she had in the late 80s and the very serious tone of her voice. She's got a much softer image these days, especially since starting on Radio 2.

I also remember being terrified by the 1988-1999 Nine O'Clock News theme booming up from the living room when I was trying to get to sleep. Very apocalyptic!
