While I'm pleased the Asian Network is getting a reprieve despite the budget cuts, what does this mean for the rest of the BBC as a whole in face of the cost savings, additional responsibilities and (IMO the myopic) licence fee freeze?

It does make the BBC appear less certain on how it will evolve in the next few years; I can't remember a time when its future seemed so uncertain since the last time the Tories were in power. Plus ca change...

It does throw some light on the other cut rumours currently being worried about on TVF. If they now think they have enough money to continue running Asian Network, despite getting BBC Trust approval to close it, then it's incredibly unlikely they'll have to reduce the BBC Two hours / drop Wimbeldon / drop local radio.
