i've made a FOI request to the local police force requesting the total number of fatal/serious accidents and the cause (if known) for a partular stretch of the a149.

i can't really see a reason why they'd refuse the request, but that's another the story.

the main reason for me making the request is that since i've been driving there have been a high number of fatalities on this particular stretch of road (a road used by many family/friends) that i feel something needs to be done to make it safer. nothing has changed or been done to make this road safer as far as i can see.

who would i approach about this initially? the local council? the highways agency? or the police themselves?

as far as i can reasonably ascertain the main reason for the accidents are drivers overtaking (the road has several "blind" spots and being the only 'coast' road has lots of HGVs),

has anybody ever had any degree of success with such a campaign? or am i just wasting my time?

Made one, of the BBC, when they stalled DAB rollout around six (or so years ago) and removed a number of transmitters in the SW from their previously released plans, asked about their decision making process, with specific points surrounding populations and service introduction. Got a fairly decent response but significant sections were redacted for commercial reasons.

Worthwhile exercise though.

I think the responsible authority would be the County Council unless the road is a designated trunk road which the Highways Authority would be in charge. As the Department for Transport have been 'de-trunking' roads it's probably Norfolk County Council.

The County are responsible and to quote Suffolk CC's highways website:

Suffolk County Council has a legal obligation to carry out studies into road traffic accidents (involving personal injury) and to take action both to reduce and prevent accidents (Road Traffic Act 1988, section 39(3)).

So it'll be the same for Norfolk CC.

You might be best getting in touch with your County Councillor and the County highways department. It might also be worth copying in any letters to the local Parish Council as they may already be trying to raise attention to the matter and love having extra assistance!

Last time I checked, men were not born as "husbands" - they're just men.

And aside from the sexual organs, you too can have exactly the same existence of a "man/husband".

You'd simply have to enjoy the company of your pals (and make efforts to see them regularly), consider sex to be quite an important aspect of life just as it is - separating that from lifelong commitment (or indeed, any whatsoever), and pinch yourself when you feel a bout of nagging coming on.
