It is not winable and the number of soldiers killed is reaching a level that the public will not accept.

Either we should get out or Gordon should go and drive one of his under-armoured tanks.

Seeing as the coalition military are pulling out of Iraq, you'd think the U.S would increase their footmen in Afghanistan and send some of our troops home. We do seem to have been covering this front of the war for them.
This war won't be won, it will likely end in some kind of peace truce. As we are fighting an Anarchic state.
