Business Cards

So I was perusing the work e-mail list and a message pinged across from a proper scientist asking if we got business cards as he was sick of scrawling his contact details on bits of sweet wrapper and toilet paper for people. It's not really the done thing in British science, but I'd quite like some, even though I have no-one to give one to.

Anyway, this got me thinking: does anyone here have FABULOUS business cards? I have been looking at AMAZING ones like Wozniak's (http://www.tuaw.com/2006/10/03/the-wozs-business-card/) which cost him about £2.50 a time for a minimum order of 100.

Snort, proper scientist... As awesome as The Woz' card is, sadly mine doesn't come close as I can't afford to spend £3 on each one.

I've never kept hold of a business card. They're soooo 1978. If I think I'll need your number it will go into my phone. Otherwise, meh.

But picture the scene: You're in the BBC canteen. You see Paxo. He calls you over because he'd like to ballroom dance around the newsnight studio with you and needs your number quickly - COME ON. How tedious it would be, you having to recite several groups of digits while he either diligently writes them down or navigates a tedious string of menus [idiosyncratic ones if it's a Nokia] and then starts punching them in.

Compare that to your lovely yuppie card. Instant and lasting! You'll be ballroom dancing with the Pax man in no time!

Surely that's a reason not to have a business card, though?

I so would show you my "ooh, it's got a varnish coat in places" card but alas I am out of all but one for the card mausoleum and I don't want to share as I need to update it anyway.

I'll tell you this... It's colour both sides, ooh!

It's a damn good one, have you no class?

I've just ordered up some for colleagues, at a quid a shot. Embossed card with silver foil insetting - that kind of thing. The metal ones (in the link above) can be around the same price if you go to http://www.goboland.com

Personally that all seems a bit unnecessary. When I receive someone's card I tend to harvest the information I want to retain, and then use them to pick my teeth with after a desk-based snackette.

Once all four corners have lost their useful pointyness the card goes in the bin.

So you should price them in accordance with toothpicks, I think.

My master plan (assuming infinite wealth) was to have a few AMAZING ones and then the rest usual.

And Gobos? Really? I suppose you never know when you'll have to stick your business card in front of a 450w halogen.
