Really Quick, Probably Stupid Question

Hi... Am about to move into my first flat with the missus... on the wall there's a BT phone socket, an NTL-branded phone socket and what looks like an NTL box with two cable connectors coming out of it. Does this mean I could have Virgin Cable?
PS... Looks like this

very likely.
is there a cable coming into the outside of said place that's one chunky coax cable with a smaller cable running alongside it?

Sput should be able to answer this one, he had an issue with a cable socket when he moved into his flat. If I remember correctly he was told that it wasn't working as it had never been connected at the box in the street outside.

Complete pass on that one, I'll double check.. but when we were being shown round the agent did say "you've got BT and cable boxes on the wall" so I'm hoping so.
Is there an online postcode checker that I can look at to see if my new area is cabled?

Yep - two "F" type outputs is a cable box alright. Looks newish, so reconnecting (if required) will be no problem, I'll wager.
I'll be brazen and ask - if you would like, I'll refer you for a free installation, and I'll get a free month or somesuch as a commission.
Hmmmm?

sadly that photo isn't the actual one in my flat, but it is the same model, if you get my drift.
Attempting to talk to someone from Virgin on one of those online chat help thingies... going well so far; he started out by saying "yes you should be able to have cable as NTL is now Virgin."
As if I didn't know!!

Maybe VM is better where you are Gav, but if I recommended VM to someone I'd be damning myself to an eternity in hell!

Time for Stupid Question 2 then: Any South-Walians in the Newport area on VM? Any problems?

Here's the thing - I was doing my "outraged customer of longstanding" on the phone a couple of days ago, because I tried to view the (pisspoor) Indiana Jones movie from their FilmFlex service. It charged me for the HD movie (£4.99 - what?!) but wouldn't play.
Then there was a week of fannying about because the 2nd line support kept ringing the house during daytime when I told them "mobile only after 6pm".
Then I tried to view it (after a phone message saying, "that should be it fixed now") and it didn't work, but charged me again.
Anyway... so...
I did shout-shout, Newcastle call centre boy did empathise-empathise. I softened up and then asked for a V+ box. He softened up and offered me one half price at £50. I told him it was generally well known that all customers would be receiving V+ in due course for free. He asked where, I said "internet".
He goes off and speaks to manager, comes back and says, "where on internet?" I said DS, here, TVF... and then pointed out that I own "one of the sites in question" and that I wouldn't want to be writing poor reviews when I've paid them hundreds and hundreds over the years.
He agreed this would be not a good thing.
I also said I could probably refer as many people as I could discourage.
Which I will now do courtesy of Alexia - he of good timing and cheer.
Double V+ boxes all round!
