On the day that the Daily Mail publishes this outrage story:
The sub goes home and drops the ball as this horrid expletive makes it onto the page. I want heads to roll, we do not pay our PAPER-tax for foul mouthed tirades, Ross should never work for the Mail again

Rumour has it that Paul Dacre is such a luddite he doesn't even look at the website.
Which means that when stories get proven to be shakier than the journos who wrote them, they can just be pulled down without The Boss knowing.

Yes, some fuckers couldn't work out that item 4b (the one ten years after the issue date and not your birthday) was an expiry date for the photo on the driving licence and thus must pay a whopping £17.50 for a new one.
Golly.
Some choice quotes
It must be so hard being so perfect that you took the time out to read the less than 1mm print on your driving licence. Clever you. Me, I actually have more of a life. There was nothing to indicate a change in the licence. There was nothing clearly indicating (other than this less than 1mm print) that the licence expires.
1. it's bigger than a mm
2. all the writing is the same size
3. i bet she moans about metric
4. IT'S BEEN THERE FOR TEN YEARS, HAVE YOU NEVER LOOKED AT IT
I'm still driving on my licence, issued in 1976. It doesn't have a photo and I've no intention of replacing it - it states that it's valid until 2018.
in which case you'll be replacing it in 9 years won't you?
"At least with your passport you get the option as to weither you want one or not. This is another money making idea."
well yes, i suppose you are forced to drive.

Britain's most successful newspaper group is offering would-be reporters an exciting and challenging training course, plus the chance to work at the Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday
I like.

Have these people never updated their passport either? The DVLA make it even easier than the Passport peopl as they send you a letter to remind you long before it expires.
Mine expired last week and I've just sent mine off... amazing how young I look in the 1999 photo compared with now

Nope, some of the commenters are outraged because the DVLA doesn't have their up-to-date contact details. HOW DARE THEY NOT BE PSYCHIC! Plus, I do believe that's another punishable offence.

Indeed, there is a fine of up to £1,000 for failing to notify DVLA of a change of address for either a driving licence or vehicle registration.
The Mail ran a similar article about six months ago and nothing has changed, so it seems pointless to raise the issue again. There is an expiry date on EVERY driving licence, so the excuse "I thought it was for life" isn't a very good defence, regardless of whether someone has a photocard or paper-only licence.
Since the Mail commentators normally rant about individuals accepting personal responsibility rather than relying on the 'nanny state', it seems rather odd that such responsibility doesn't extend to actually reading the dates on a driving licence!

Meanwhile, over at the Express
http://www.dailyexpress.co.uk/posts/view/84949
Shock! Horror! Migrant workers are UNDERCUTTING British workers by being WILLING to work for about £2 an hour!! The dirty evil bastards!! How dare they work below the poverty line, deliberately putting millions of skilled British welders and fitters out of work?

I don't really think that's comparable to stupid mail causing a fuss over nothing.
I mean its written in express alarmist speak but that story on the whole is actually rather bad. i mean there's all sorts of problems there with the illegality of employers behavior.

Absolutely, but the Express, instead of going after the employers, is making out that it's the migrant workers who are to blame, by being willing to work for £2 an hour. Their aim is way off.
