Have any of you seen Spotify? It's at https://www.spotify.com

It's got quite an amazing online selection of audio, which streams at fairly high quality, and the ad-sponsoring is really quite subtle. Enjoyably it links in with things like Last.com too.

If you haven't heard of this kind of thing before you should really give it a go. I think you are meant to need an invite but there's a loophole where you can sign up without one by going here: http://www.spotify.com/en/get-started

You didn't mention it involved software.

It's compatible with Macs I think :)

It is and whilst it seems like a good idea, most majors signed up and all, I'm unimpressed by the fact it's really subpar unless you cough up the tenner a month. I'll be sticking to last.fm for a while yet, Songbird also failed to impress and this has echoes of it.

Spotify is now being opened to all UK users, without the need for an invite.

Have to say how impressed I am with this. I've been trying to catch it out with a few obscure ones and B-sides but haven't beaten it as much as I anticipated. The speed is immense and the quality is good enough. Like it.

Top drawer program. Really is amazing! It's got tons of things on it I have been looking for on Soulseek etc for years! It loves obscure stuff. But no Driver 67. Or Hi-Ho Silver by Jim Diamond. But anyway.

Only qualm I have is the lack of an equaliser or other audio enhancements.

Why not leave those up to your soundcard's control panel? Works for me, means I don't have to set up every media player up individually.

Something about it seems too good to be true so far... I'm suspicious of any streaming service that works perfectly! Once there's an XBMC plugin for it I may just stop downloading music, since I only use my ipod for podcasts these days.

There will be an interview with Spotify's creator on tonight's C4News, which has already begun.

so how come I've just started using this now? It's incredible! I'd always used youtube for music but this is so fast, better quality and without all the bottomfeeder comments. amazing.

The megamix of soap theme tunes I found the other night was amazing, will have to refind that one :)
