I hate it when people have their STB's or DVD players set to 4:3 Letterbox and are watching it on a Widescreen TV, and claim to not notice, then it just looks terrible. We got NTL Digital about 8 years ago and I had to set it to 4:3 Letterbox when we still had a 4:3 TV, so to me the pictures looked great but it was a hard time having to explain to my father why everything was in widescreen and why it looks better.

Most people I know now seem to have their TV's set in the right picture mode, a friend of mine has Sky HD and it looks stunning, but obviously that's HD anyway and that it's only in 16:9.

Yes there does seem to be a general ignorance when it comes to setting things up properly. Many of the cheaper DVD players are still coming set up in standard 4:3 which is then plugged into a widescreen telly and the consumer is happy because "it's a DVD." D'oh.

It is one of my pet hates, and one thing that really does infuriate me - and sadly others too as they're asking what drink I'd like but I've got their Sky remote making sure they're getting the maximum and best picture. I ask "There, doesn't that look better?" and I simply get the reply "No, I don't like it" and it's changed back within a few days.

Freaks.

We're going round the loop yet again.

I remember the early days of colour, when everybody had bright orange faces, just because you could turn the colour right up and rip the knob off.

I lost count of the friends' and relatives' sets I turned the colour down on, to get the correct skin tone, only to go back a few days later to find they'd turned it right up again.

Does this mean that I'm the only one with Sky on a 4:3?

It's only in my room. The widescreen's downstairs, with a rather nice Sky+ box.

I've got cable on a 4:3 (my only TV), still using VHS as my only way of recording too

Autosensing optimisation.

Trust me - it'll be the wave of the future.
