See my voices and choices post, I agree with the choices avenue. The broadcasters need to get together to produce an internet equipped set top box which would enable the viewer to get programmes from ALL online providers - whether by payment or not - in a common format for playback.

If I really think about it, I would say that the only appointment to view I make now would be the seasonal specials (such as I'm a celebrity).
I have a schedule of telly when I come in of an evening, but that's largely shows which repeat in perpetuity - Judge Judy, America's Next Top Model and other easy-to-watch junk whilst I am cooking and eating.
The increased availability of shows I really want to watch (like Brooker on BBC4) means I'm less fussed about catching it first time round. Notable exception being Harry Hill, which seldom gets a repeat.
The linear model isn't dead to me yet, though, as my TV choices wouldn't fill a schedule of my own making, so I'm happy to supplement the hours with whatever is on that catches my eye, or one of the old favourites listed above.
