Greetings from vulgar Britain: Offensive and obscene cards shame our country
When ALLISON PEARSON went to buy a birthday card for her mum, she was horrified by what she found - cards so offensive and obscene she felt ashamed of her country. And the sorry truth is, most are bought by women.
Is Luxton now the editor in chief of this paper?

I think it's only right to tell people you can get those vulgar cards in Urban Outfitters.
I was appalled by them when I was in the new store in Belfast city centre. So much so that I only bought three of them.

Hmm, to Urban Outfitters then.
The Daily Mail wrote:Distasteful: We apologise for reproducing these offensive cards but readers must see for themselves how distasteful some greeting cards have become
Yes. What I admire about this is the strange level of double standards they have regarding this sort of card. This is vulgar but those shitty seaside postcard sort of humour they bill as old but good somewhat proves the point, the stuff that we grew up with was fine but this new stuff is not even though in essence they occupy the same space. Just one has bad words in them, the other are shit attempts at humour to cover up some middle aged men's flaccid penises and to me are distasteful in the way old sexist gags can be.
And more!

It always amazes me that there are people that prudish out there that they would get so worked up about a bit of swearing. Guess what: it's a free country.

Heh, daily fail indeed. My favourite example of their double standards is complaining about the Brass Eye paedophile special on the SAME PAGE as printing a photo of a not-yet-legal princess in a bikini saying "She's all grown up now"

I completely agree, Mr Q.
You could perhaps understand this reaction from an 80 year old wandering into a card shop looking for a sweet and innocent birthday card for a grandchild, and accidentally coming across this section of humour. However, I'm surprised at this prudish reaction from a 48 year old woman with 20+ years experience as a journalist, who really should've been more aware than most of the changing world around her.
These sort of cards have been very popular for years, I'm surprised she's only just found out about them. I suspect either she hasn't send a birthday card to her mother for many years or she just didn't have any decent copy to send to her editor this week. Probably the latter, since this woman is currently being sued for not having produced a promised novel in 2005 after getting a subtantial advance.

You might be right. I like to think of being wrong in this case as a win for me since it means I'm not overly familiar with the Mail.

it was the star who had princess eugene, hence the implication you read that, which is even more of a FAIL

Damn you gumba. DAMN YOU. They're equally perverse anyway, just one has the sense of moral outrage that it really doesn't deserve.

How ironic. A poster from SA on the fail website says that she's "glad to be bringing her kids up away from a sick society like the UK".
