Retro games you (used to) play

Recently I've got rather into reliving my childhood by finding all the computer games I played back then and re-playing them. I think we should discuss our computer game nostalgia in this thread.

So far I've got through:
  • SMB and Sonic of course
  • Total Annihilation
  • Dungeon Keeper (really good design mode)
  • Contraptions (another good design mode game)
  • Creatures
  • Grim Fandango
  • Monkey Island
  • Populous
  • SimCity (Original version)
  • Lemmings
  • Repton (great design mode)
  • And of course Windows-Bundled Minesweeper that hasn't changed in about 20 years
I've been rather keen on playing a few old Mac games as well that were installed at my old old school that only ran Macs (poor me).

Like Bill the Demon and Lost Mind of Dr Brain.

But given that they are the only two games I can think of off the top of my head, I can't be bothered to find an OS9 emulator and an OS9 image for me to run, and I am certainly not buying an old Mac.

And let's not forget good old Acorn games. Hmm. Actually, I've forgotten all of them apart from Repton. Can't have been any that impressed me then.

Zork / Return to Zork would be quite fun, but I don't imagine it's still available, or even if it would work on Vista.

I used to have one of those little handheld Super Mario games, like the one in that film ('K9' I think?) I looked on eBay a few weeks ago and they sell for about £20 - £40 second hand now, depending on the condition!

I have a SNES emulator and all the games I used to play years ago. I'm currently playing Illusion of Time and Super Mario World.

I never had the SNES, but my cousin did and on his they had a device that plugged into the cartridge drive that allowed them to play Floppy disks that held SNES games, so he must have had about 200 games.

I had a NES, my favourite game there was the Original Super Mario, but I got rid of the machine some years ago, had Duck Hunt for it too which came with an Orange Nintendo gun!

Still have a Sega Mega Drive II in it's box (gathering dust), mainly for the Sonic games, I switched on a couple of years ago and it still worked (although the RF Frequency clashed with the VCR one for some reason!), I proved I hadn't lost my edge at the first Sonic game, although I don't think I ever completed Sonic 2 or Sonic and Knuckles.

Still have the original Playstation aswell, although I do use the Playstation 2 from time to time, although its years old and rather limited I never get bored of Crazy Taxi.

Duck Hunt was classic!! Possibly one of the best games I've ever played.

I couldn't agree more, it was simple, just point the gun at the TV and aim, when I was 7 years old we had hours and hours of fun from it. I was having a discussion about this with one of my mates the other day and he said pretty much the same, so I guess its fondly remembered. Shame they can't do a new version for Wii...

This is a bit strange - I nearly started an identical thread a couple of weeks ago having got my hands on a few older games.

We went to stay with some friends and he'd got his copy of worms 2 running, which got me right in the mood for older games (ok, maybe not so much classic, but older anyway!). So I've been looking through abandonia.com.
With the help of a DOS emulator called dosbox, I've been delving back into Lemmings 2, Settlers 2 and the incredible machine.
There are a load of games which I remember which clearly aren't as good as my rose tinted specs would have suggsted and they mostly look pretty terrible graphics wise, but most of the good games aren't hindered by basic graphics. I bought settlers 4 a few years ago to try and relive my earlier gaming days, but although it looks great, it plays terribly! I'm told it was the same when worms went 3d.

You can shoot ducks in one of the Wii Play mingames, but only as a bonus instead of hitting clay pigeons/targets/cans.

Scrooge, you're quite right: ANY 3D version of Worms is utter bottom burp. I think Team17 know this, which is why they've ostensibly been remaking (and even continuing to patch the original) Worms Armageddon every year since it came out. Can't understand why they only put a very basic version of it on Xbox Live Arcade though.

My uncle giving me a SNES back in 1994 is up there with my best Christmas presents ever, along with the Megazord from Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. It had everything from Street Fighter II to Donkey Kong Country with it. Still the best console ever made ever.

And Monkey Island on the PC! The second game was an absolute bugger to finish, the bit at the end with LeChuck chasing you through the tunnels was terrifying to me as a kid.

I got a Sega Mega Drive in 1993; still got it back home in Ireland so may check it out next time I'm home to see if it works. Think the only games I have left from what I had are Sonic 1 (which I quickly clocked), Sonic 2 (could only get up to the boss of Wing Fortress Zone and no further without cheating) and Street Fighter 2 (the hilarity at the time of pausing the game when Chun Li did her Lightning Kick to see up her dress...).

Somehow, when second generation consoles like the PS One came in, I lost interest in games consoles.
