The Olympic Thread

I'm watching the Opening Ceremony of the 2008 Olympic Games in awe. Absolutely mindblowing.
I feel for whoever has to come up with the creative implementation for London 2012 because quite frankly we can't afford to do 1% of this.
As predicted on Five Live this morning, we'll probably have drama students in lycra.

As I said in the other thread money (nor indeed people) is no issue to the Communist party. I severely doubt that any future Olympics will have the money or willpower to top this.

The British will have a quick punch and Judy showing - the theme will be multi cultural Britain!

So you think that maybe Chas n'Dave and a few choons on the old joanna on the back of a flat bed truck with some pearly queens wandering behind a hackney cab won't quite cut it?

I went to lunch with my mother so I missed the "spectacle" of the ceremony.
Good, was it?

There are over a billion people in china, and most of them were involved in the opening ceremony.

Yup, look out for the first bit in the highlights show - 2008 drummers in perfect sync, with drums the size of dining room tables which each had hundreds of built in LEDs that seemed to be responding to the beats.
They did a visual countdown using the LEDs on the drums which was incredible.

It was spectacular, yes, but in my opinion the whole thing resembled a Nazi rally.
I dread to think what the London opening ceremony will be like. There'll be no spectacular explosions or people flying around on high wires, due to health and safety. The theme will be 'Multi-Culturalism', as per usual. There'll be no mention of the British Empire or the armed forces. The fireworks will turn out to be nothing more than a massive cloud of smoke, a-la London eye on new year's eve. In fact they'll probably run a competition on Blue Peter, and get a load of school kids from the East End to design the whole thing

Oh, just say "It'll be political correctness gone mad", "the health and safety nazis will have a field day" and "it's not like when I were a lad" and be done with it. Your post is reading like the tired ramblings of Daily Mail reader. Get out of that mindset while you can.

'Daily Mail reader'
I don't think so.
We'll see if I'm right in four years time anyway.
