I been sent this form a number of people:

Please Be Extremely Careful especially if using internet mail such as Yahoo, Hotmail, AOL and so on.

This information arrived this morning direct from both Microsoft and Norton.

Please send it to everybody you know who has access to the Internet.

You may receive an apparently harmless email with a Power Point presentation
'Life is beautiful.'

If you receive it DO NOT OPEN THE FILE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES , and delete it immediately .

If you open this file, a message will appear on your screen saying: 'It is too late now, your life is no longer beautiful.'

Subsequently you will LOSE EVERYTHING IN YOUR PC and the person who sent it to you will gain access to your name, e-mail and password.

This is a new virus which started to circulate on Saturday afternoon.

AOL has already confirmed the severity, and the antivirus software's are not capable of destroying it.

The virus has been created by a hacker who calls himself 'life owner.'

These virus "warnings" are in themselves the problem.

Imagine - if you receive an email saying, "send to everyone you know" and you follow the instructions, you and everyone like you ends up jamming email servers around the world.

Never EVER follow email directions to send to everyone. Legitimate virus warnings can be found on Microsoft or Norton's websites. Did you think to check if these warnings have come from Microsoft? Even BBC News will carry stories of genuine virus threats.

I understand you thought you were being helpful, but these emails go around constantly and are rarely true.

You have been fooled.

Just a little point to note here.

Norton were bought out by Symantec many years ago, now. Although Symantec still use the word "Norton" as a trade name, there's no "Norton" website and nobody at "Norton" sends any information out; it all comes from Symantec and has done for ages.

So a damn good rule of thumb is that if you get any of this anagram of carp, supposedly from Norton, an anagram of carp is exactly what it is.

Somebody sent me one the other day, it might have been another version of this, but I can't be fagged to look it up again, and when I looked in the Symantec database it had first been identified as a hoax in February 2002.

Mr numerical could be onto something with this aol virus. I've tried logging in with usual password and had to change it twice due to using incorrect password. Although i used the correct password. I think my account has been phished ( is that the correct term).
