My local one has done this too, cost saving measure perhaps? As in they won't need a dedicated member of staff behind the counter, other than to prepare/rotate the stock - they can be on other shop floor duties.

Has anyone else spotted the extremely odd Smug Dairy products still stubbornly hanging around in the major supermarkets?

I have no idea why any supermarket would want them on their shelves or why anyone would want to buy them. It's the worst of both worlds, with a patronising name to boot.

I hadn't noticed them, but it does sounds rather like something that a no-hoper PM insists upon in The Apprentice might come up with.

50 years since the first Sainsbury's (or indeed any supermarket) petrol station

Some new design SELs appearing in my local Asda but - surprise surprise - they seem to be nothing like the design of anything else. A quite ugly bold italic font for both the product name and price.

If only they made a condensed variant of the Gotham font for just such a purpose. They could call it Gotham Condensed.

An email has arrived telling me about "Important information about My Waitrose T&Cs"

One of the important points is that I can now save 20% at the cheese counter on Thursdays.

Another is that "The scheme is now referred to as My Waitrose rather than myWaitrose."

Very important, both of those.

I noticed on my recent trip to Asda the other day that there was a load of new POS featuring the older 'Rollback' logo with the big smiley face which they apparently phased out a few years ago but it seems is back again.

I didn't see any of those SELs though - could potentially be an error. I have seen SELs with the wrong font at Morrisons before.

All the remaining cafes and pizza counters are closing at Sainsbury’s

To be honest, I didn't even know they had any cafes left, all the stores I've been into over the last couple of years have the old cafe space walled off.
